Time just goes by, and we don’t have the ability to travel back in time, but hopefully,  we have our memories, and we can throw back to the moments that we treasure. The nostalgic people are setting a vintage tide by reinterpreting the items from their memories. The fashion of “ tape” is coming back!

Tape in the 60s-70s-90s

Tape is original from the tracksuits that the famous brand Adidas collaborated with German soccer star Franz Beckenbauer. This top and bottom sportswear feature Adidas' three stripes tapes on the side of arms and legs. Tracksuit became widely used in sports occasions since its simple design and comfortable nylon fabric. Doesn’t it remind you of your sportswear during PE class in high school?

The disco music of the 70s made the tracksuit become a non-athletic staple. It also became popular with the hip-hop culture which presents the ironic bright color tone. People started to wear tracksuits in their daily life even when they are doing nothing related to sports. They also appeared in the discos and movies.

By the 90s, tracksuit became a hip-hop icon. It means not only the clothes but also socioeconomic status.

The Evolution of Tape: The Co-prosperity of Boutiques and Street Style

Hip-hop music, the music that represents the street culture, became the mainstream within the pop culture. Also, boutique brands have more interaction with fashionable brands. The classic tracksuit was not limited to the certain community and was spread to many other areas. In recent years, we can see the tracksuits being reinterpreted in both international brands and smaller brands.

The tape started to break away from tracksuit, be used in some more feminine items, and create a unique combination of design. This simple long dress has logo tape as a belt. It not only makes you look taller but also adds the street style to the look.

Crew Neck with Tape

You might think that adding tape to the crew neck which is also sporty casual wear is nothing special. In fact, this item was designed with surprises. It’s a nice one tone crew neck when you see from the front. If you open the zips on the side, you will find logo tapes inside! Just one step to change the style with this crew neck. This is a two-in-one item!

The designers are trying to break the limits of the usage of tape. Apart from using it on the bright colored nylon sportswear, they also try to combine it with suiting fabrics and denim. Different from the bright colors combination, adding the color black into the dark denim creates a delicate yet low profile look.

You can call tape as the bridge between fashion and street voice. It was created with the tracksuits and slowly became a decoration of fashion clothing. A tape can be seen as cool or fashionable. It’s a hybrid of fashion!
